THE HORROR! How To Hide Thinning Hair

First off, HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Second, let's face it, you read our blog post on how to stop thinning hair, but your hair continued to thin and now you've given up. Well, today I am here with a bunch of tips and tricks that will help you hide that thinning hair and make it appear as though you have thicker and fuller hair. As we said in our other blog post, there are many reasons why your hair can be thinning. These reasons include age, over processing your hair, stress, using the wrong products, and conditions like Alopecia and Trichotillomania. One of the most popular reasons though, is age, and let's face it, you can't stop the clock. As humans, as we age our scalp starts to produce fewer follicles, and the strands of hair themselves have gotten much thinner. Now, thinning hair is inevitable in both men and women, but I'm gonna give you some tips today to help you hide your thinning hair!

1. Snip Snip

Getting a short "pixie-like" style can help give the illusion of thick and full hair. Cutting off a few inches and adding layers can also help give the hair some needed volume and can help it appear much thicker. Shorter hair isn't as heavy so it isn't weighed down by itself on your head revealing your thinning hair or bald spots. When going to get your cut, tell your stylist that you would like to add some layers around your face and that you would like to leave the back of your hair much fuller allowing it to create body and volume.

2. Color

One of the best ways to cover thinning hair is to introduce a drastic color change to your hair. The more drastic change, the better. This is because people will be so distracted by your new color they won't notice your hair is thinning. Not only does your hair appear thicker, but adding color to your hair helps to plump up your follicles. Dying your hair black, although helping to hide bald spots and thinning momentarily, requires a lot of upkeep and will be more trouble than its worth. Consider dying your hair a deep brunette or a vibrant red. Usually the deeper and more dimensional the color the better.

3. Change Your Part

This one is a no-brainer if you have been wearing your hair the same way for the last fifteen years, it is destined to look thinner in a few places. That being said, try to change around your part and style your hair differently. Not only will this help you to cover up some of your thinning spots, but it will also help to give your hair much more volume because you will be going against your old parts changing the direction of your hair, and in turn, the dimension and volume. Some people also recommend using a braid to cover up a bald spot. and although that may work momentarily for the long haul tight braids can actually lead to more breakage and in turn, more thinning hair.

4. A Good Blow Out

After you wash your hair, it may be a good idea to introduce your hair to a good blowout. Although you can go to the salon every day, that can get pretty expensive so it is best that we recommend you learn how to give yourself a blowout. This can be done with one tool and a blowdryer, a boar bristle round brush. To add volume to your hair with a blowout start with damp hair, and pull it up section by section drying it in the opposite direction to where it falls. Blast the strands with some cool air to lock the style in place and wallah, more volume. This is a great way to hide bald spots, especially because you will be wearing your hair in the way that it is usually not worn.

5. The Importance of Washing

When choosing products that you are going to use daily to wash and style your hair, it is good to look for ones that a volumizing and help to combat limp hair and will pump up the volume of your hair to make it appear less thin.
